A local resident has been causing quite a stir in the community recently. Maria Gallahan and her family have been living in our fair city all their lives. In fact, they can trace their lineage back to the founding of the city. It seems that Ms. Gallahan’s father was among those who first settled in Green Lakes, and his descendants never stopped playing important roles in the city in many different ways, including developing the hiking trails.
Maria Gallahan has been so taken with her family involvement in the city as well as the history of the city itself. Two years, Gallahan opened the Green Lakes History Center. Since opening the Center, it has flourished. Tourists passing through the city love to stop to learn about the city with the Center’s guided tours and walkabouts.
But Maria had a problem: The guidebook that tells tourists about what they can find in Green Lakes hasn’t been updated since it was first released about a decade ago. Well, Maria took this directly to the publishing agency and it seems that they will be releasing a new edition of the guidebook this summer. The updated guide will include descriptions of local business, times and dates of tours, and reviews of local restaurants.
I don’t know about you, readers, but I can’t wait to see what comes out!

1. “About Us”
Four Squared English was created in 2011 by a group of English teachers looking for an alternative to the current practices on the Internet and in the classroom. These teachers, who have mastered several languages and taught several others, now understand how to teach the subject in order to gain the best results.
The company was founded on the idea that learning a little everyday is the best way to, over time, become fluent in a language. Four Squared English’s program was designed to accommodate students based on the amount of time they are able to devote to their studies.
2. “Our Program”
After years of teaching and studying different languages we have seen failure, frustration, and success. The most successful students were the ones who were able to study everyday. These students gained confidence, vocabulary, and the knowledge of the language needed to become better speakers. They did this not by dismissing a lesson as soon as the session ended, but by reviewing, then building upon it in order to increase their knowledge. Our program was created for everyday learning. Whether a student can devote a small or large amount of their time, we have a program that fits their needs.
Each week the lesson will focus on a specific piece of grammar and introduce vocabulary that will be used intermittently in future lessons in order to promote complete understanding. The idea of sporadically using the same vocabulary comes from the Spaced-repetition learning system, or SRS method of studying. In this method, the student sees vocabulary repeated at a high rate when the words are first introduced, with the rate then lowering exponentially as the student completes more lessons and is introduced to newer vocabulary.
In weekly or bi-weekly speaking lessons the student will meet with one of our teachers via the Internet. In this lesson the teacher’s role is to be a good listener, making the student feel comfortable and coaxing them to speak more. After each lesson the student will be sent a report. These reports are given to advise students and aid them in their review of three areas: Pronunciation, Vocabulary and Grammar.
Hotel Industry
Two words can be used to define Sofitel So Bangkok, and they are these: comfort and elegance. From the moment you enter until the moment you leave, the Sofitel staff seeks to keep its guests comfortable and in an environment that is both stylish and sophisticated. From greeting guests with a special drink to hailing a cab, they do not fall short.
The Sofitel So may be Bangkok’s first urban design hotel, but they adapt to the city flawlessly. Situated on the corner of North Sathorn and Rama IV, the hotel overlooks Lumpini Park, providing a unique experience for guests and visitors alike.
Designed by Monsieur Christian Lacroix, award-winning architect Smith Obayawat, and five well-established Thai interior designers, the Sofitel So Bangkok is dressed to impress. Dark, seductive lighting and music fill the common areas of the hotel, giving off a vibe to match.
The guestrooms and suites, decorated by local designers, are based around a central theme – the five elements. Water, Earth, Wood, and Metal each served as the inspiration for the design of the rooms. Little design flourishes add personality as the themes are incorporated throughout the hotel’s amenities while the neutrality of the lobby balances everything out.
Monsieur Christian Lacroix, the French master of Haute Couture entrusted with Sofitel So’s artistic focus, enhanced these designs and added the French touch that Sofitel is known for the world over by coordinating and showcasing each designer. Sofitel So Bangkok draws its inspiration from the picturesque view of Bangkok itself, where the five elements can be seen – the earth, wood, and water of Lumpini Park surrounded by the metal of the city and warmed by the fire of the sun.
The final element – fire – may not be displayed in its own section of rooms, but it can be found in many of the common areas and, more specifically, the restaurants. A visit to Red Oven, built around its gorgeous yet intimidating namesake, will make this theme vastly clearer.
In addition to Red Oven, Sofitel So Bangkok also offers a majestic dining experience at its rooftop restaurant Park Society Restaurant & Bar. Located on the 29th floor of the hotel, refined culinary techniques meet incredible scenery that capture the senses as the city lights come together with the elegant setting. The esteemed Chef Paul Smart and his team of culinary specialists have adopted a Chef’s table concept that allows diners to tailor the menu to their personal tastes.
The open-air section of the restaurant, named HI SO for obvious reasons, offers a more elite experience. Here, guests can enjoy the food of the Park Society menu in stylish cabanas that present a more romantic atmosphere while taking pleasure in the privilege of the personalized butler service.
The Sofitel So Bangkok also features an out of this world chocolate boutique, aptly named Chocolab, which serves delicious handmade chocolates in a delightful café-style setting.
Sofitel So Bangkok stands out amongst its competitors for many reasons, but the one that most guests will likely be concerned with is convenience. They need not fret as the hotel features a number of ultra-modern technical amenities. As Asia’s first hotel to offer such a “fully connected” lifestyle, guests will discover a number of services available via their room’s television. From room service to Apple Mac minis, nightlife recommendations to data streaming, cultural advice to helpful Thai phrases, Sofitel So Bangkok is nothing if not state-of-the-art.
For more active guests, the hotel features two floors of wellness experiences that afford guests with the fundamental pleasure and comfort that they desire. The So FIT area is equipped with all the latest fitness equipment and gives visitors the chance to get fit while gazing out at a grandiose view of Lumpini Park as well as the open air infinity pool, which hosts a pool party open to the public on the last Saturday of every month.
Guests who wish to be pampered and feel like royalty can visit Sofitel So’s spa concept, So SPA, which offers a selection of the most effective spa treatments combined with cultivated French cosmetology.
Bringing together modern technology with the spirit of innovation, Sofitel So Bangkok is an amalgamation of culture, fashion, taste, and style.
